Ashinaga Graduate Joins Board of Trustees
We are proud to announce that Alex Wagikuyu, a Graduate of the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI), has joined the Ashinaga UK Board of Trustees.
Alex’s journey with Ashinaga began in 2015, when he was selected as the Kenyan Scholar in the inaugural scholarship cohort. Over the years, he has grown into a dedicated leader who brings both professional experience and a deeply personal connection to our mission.
He has witnessed firsthand the growth of the Ashinaga Africa Initiative - our global effort to nurture the next generation of Young Leaders for Africa. To date, the programme has supported over 300 orphaned students from 47 countries across sub-Saharan Africa. Alex’s story is a testament to what is possible through education, leadership development opportunities, and the generosity of our supporters.
“When I had the opportunity to join the board, I did not hesitate because I am a living testament to Ashinaga’s mission. This organization is deeply personal to me - it has transformed my life, along with the lives of countless other African scholars. Nelson Mandela once said that education is the most powerful tool we can use to change the world. Ashinaga embodies this belief by transforming lives through education, and as a board member, I would be honoured to advance that mission. Moreover, as an alumnus of the programme, I would bring a unique student perspective to the leadership, ensuring that the voices of those we serve remain central to our decisions.”

Alex earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science and a master’s degree in Finance from Clark University in the United States. He now works in Bank of America’s Operations division in London and continues to support nonprofit organisations focused on African development through education.
We are thrilled to welcome Alex to the board and look forward to his insight and leadership as we continue working to support orphaned young people across the continent and beyond.
